What’s In A Name

Wayne Schatz, Executive Director,
WREP

Have you ever thought about the history behind your name? How important is your signature? From what country did your family name come? Did your given name come from your grandparents or other family member? Let me share a few ideas with you about the importance of a name.

Many of us don’t even think about our name. We sign checks with our name. We commit ourselves to thousands of dollars with our name. We sign contracts to say we will do things with our name. We commit our lives to another person with a signature and promise.

Most of us never get the chance to choose our own name, yet throughout our lives, we are known by that name to friends, workers, and our government. We recognize it when someone calls to us. Our name is a very important part of our lives.

Name recognition is also a very important part of our lives. Movie stars and celebrities work hours to assure that others know who they are.

Now that we have established the importance of a name, let’s focus for a moment on the name of the Wyoming Retired Education Personnel (WREP). What comes to mind when you hear the name of your association? Is it the opportunity to be of service to others? Is it information on the Wyoming Retirement System? Is it the opportunity to have great insurance and other benefits? Perhaps it is the opportunity to socially meet with other retired persons and share ideas? Wyoming Retired Education Personnel (WREP) is all of these and more.

We have continued to work with the Wyoming Retirement System board to tell our story as members of the Wyoming Retirement System. We continue to work with Association Member Benefits Advisors (AMBA) to offer great member benefits. We partner with Wyoming Coalition for a Healthy Retirement (WCHR) to monitor legislation in the legislature.

We have had representatives at national meetings sharing our story as Wyoming retirees with others from around the country.

I am proud to have the name, Wyoming Retired Education Personnel, next to mine. Yet I am amazed that some retired educators in our state still do not recognize the things that are done for them by WREP.

Let me share our WREP goals for this next year:
1) Encourage retirees to seek relevant opportunities for financial security.
2) Partner with WCHR to monitor state legislation concerning retirees
3) Encourage retirees to share talents with their communities.
4) Continue working with AMBA to provide supplemental insurance.

The name, WREP, has been the proud sentinel for Retired Educators in this state. Your executive committee members are dedicated to representing Wyoming retired educators and continuing the past traditions of WREP into the future.

Isn’t it time that you became an active part of the Wyoming Retired Education Personnel? Isn’t it time that you invited a fellow retiree to join this great group? We encourage you to share any thoughts about how WREP can serve our members.
